Sepp Piontek, f. 1940 i Tyskland. 6 A-landskampe for
Vesttyskland. Klubtræner i den tyske bundesturnering i Bremen og Düsseldorf.
Landstræner 2 år på Haiti, inden han blev den længst regerende danske
landstræner 1979-90. Senere landstræner i Tyrkiet, samt klubtræner på int.
basis. Med hans germansk indstillede disciplin og store internationale
fodbolderfaring fik han på kort tid omvendt den danske (meget talentfulde)
spillertrups hyggementalitet til en resultatorienteret indstilling. Gennem
80erne skabte han nogle flotte resultater. 1983 udnævnt til årets manager i
Europa. Kulminationen kom den lune og overskyede 5. juni 1985 i den gamle
Københavns Idrætspark, hvor ca. 50.000 tændte tilskuere og millioner af TV-seere
så et af verdens absolut bedste mandskaber fra USSR blive besejret med 4-2.
Verdens daværende bedste målmand Raino Dassajev hentede for første og eneste
gang i sin landskamp-karriere 4 bolde ud af nettet. Kampen gjaldt en
kvalifikation til fodbold VM i Mexico 1986. Ingen, absolut ingen - der så den
kamp vil nogensinde glemme måske den bedste kamp, et dansk fodboldlandshold har
spillet. Selv germaneren Josef Emanuel Hubertus Piontek havde intet at brokke
sig over efter kampen, der gjorde Danmarks 136. grundlovsdag til en sjælden smuk
erindring.

Danish nationalcoach. Nationalcoach in Turkey and clubtrainer several places
afterwards. His greatest succes came with the talented Danish nationalteam in
the 80ties. Coach of the year in Europe 1983. His peak as coach came on a
certain hot June-day in Copenhagen Idrætspark ( June 5, 1985). 50.000
spectators, mio. of TV-viewers saw what should be one of the very best fights
ever of the Danish national team against USSR. At that days the soviets were
ranked as one of the very best teams in the world, at least the goalkeaper R
Dassajev was ranked as the best. After a fantastic match (qualification for WC
Mexico 1986) the Soviets lost 2-4 to an outstanding Danish team. It was the
complete cocktail of Danish dynamite of phantasy and sublime tecnic and tactical
sense in combination with german discipline Everyone - and I do mean everyone -
watched that fight, will never forget it. Mostly Piontek wasn´t satisfied with
the danish team - even of fine results through the years - however that very day
Piontek admitted afterwards, that he was proud and later on got goose pimples,
when re-winding that match. Piontek was the master, that brought Denmark from
the middle to the top of European football. The coach on the right time on the
right place !
