Robert Schuman, f. 1886 - d. 1963 - Fransk
kristelig-demokratisk politiker, statsmand og jurist. Født i Europas bug Alsace
Lorraine( Elsass-Lothringen). Medl. af den franske nationalforsamling 1919-40.
Fransk finansmin, premiermin og udenrigsminister. Initiator for mange af Europas
organisationer, især NATO og EU (opr. Kul og Stålunion). Hans samarbejde med den
franske finansmand Jean Monnet danner rygraden for etableringen af EU(ropa)
efter 2.verdenskrig. En visionær og kontrolleret fransk minister af de sjældne.
For en gang skyld en fransk profil, der realiserede store (europæisk) politiske
visioner uden for megen arrogance.
