Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, f. 1945 - Myanmars ( tidl.
Burma) oppositionsleder. Den Nationale Liga for Demokrati vandt med hende som
spydspids en kæmpevalgsejr i 1990. Militærstyret i Yangon (tidl. Rangoon)
nægtede hende adgang til magten. Sad 19 måneder i husarrest indtil maj 2002.
Nobelprisvinder 1991.
leder.
Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, b. 1945 - Myanmars ( former
Burma) oppositionsleader. BA in philosophy, economy and politics from Oxford
univ. (UK). The National League for Democracy headed by her won a huge victory
at the election in 1990. The Millitary government in Yangon (Rangoon) however
denied her access to the power. Captured in house arrest for 19 months until May
2002. Nobel peace prize winner 1991. Due to potential trade restrictions from
the Western society ( USA, Japan and EU) the economy of Myanmar is close to
collapse. A democratic fair appointment as head of the government in Myanmar
should be a matter of course. That might cause the start of a better life for
millions of myanmars (burmesians). She has indeed the stature to become a great
asian leader.
